Our Projects
The Rotary Club of Mazatenango, in collaboration with the Rotary Club of Oakland, California, carried out a significant project in the community of Paquila. This project included installing potable water in homes, improving the supply from a public tap. In addition, improvements were made to the local school and deworming and medical care days were carried out. These efforts have contributed to community development, improving health, education and environmental sanitation.
Rotary clubs on the southern coast of Guatemala, including Escuintla, Mazatenango, Retalhuleu, and Coatepeque, implemented a project that benefited approximately 50,000 children in 50 public schools. Through the administration of albendazole (Zentel) every six months, and with the support of local municipalities, Fundazucar, Inmed, CDC of Atlanta, UNICEF, and the United Nations, the health of the children was improved. This project was so successful that it served as a model for a national deworming program by the Ministry of Public Health and Social Assistance.
This project in the community of El Progreso on the southern coast of Guatemala addressed the severe lack of access to clean water. A deep well, a chlorination system, an elevated tank and a distribution network were built. Thanks to the collaboration with Engineers Without Borders, the sanitary and recreational facilities of the local school were also improved. The project has benefited numerous families, providing clean water and improving sanitary conditions.
The Pasac community in Nahualá was facing serious problems with access to water due to the deterioration of its system and the impact of climate change. Through this project, a gravity-fed water system was built that takes advantage of a natural source in the mountains, with three catchment tanks and a distribution network. This initiative has allowed hundreds of families to have access to clean water, improving their quality of life and contributing to their economic sustainability.
In the community of La Vega, located on the Pacific coast, a project was implemented that resolved the lack of access to drinking water. With the support of Rotary clubs in the United States, the Rotary Club of Mazatenango managed the construction of a deep well, the installation of a pump, a chlorination system and a distribution network, benefiting hundreds of families. This project has improved the quality of life and reduced health problems related to the consumption of contaminated water. In addition, local committees were established to ensure the maintenance of the system.
